BACKGROUND

Background
St. Ponsiano Ngondwe Catholic Nursery and Primary School Bbuto plays a significant role in the community by providing education to underprivileged children since its founding in 2006 by the Consolata Fathers. Under the Arch-Diocese of Kampala, the school focuses on the educational needs of young learners in the Bbuto area.
Since 2008, the management has transitioned to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes, who have worked diligently alongside a committed School Management Committee to enhance the school’s operations and educational offerings. The collaborative efforts aim to provide an environment that nurtures both academic excellence and moral development, reflecting the values of the Catholic faith.
The school is formally recognized in Uganda’s education system, being registered with the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) under registration number 537768, which ensures that it adheres to national educational standards. This registration allows the school to participate in the national examination and provide its students with a pathway to further education.
The dedication of the founders, current management, and the surrounding community continues to shape St. Ponsiano Ngondwe Catholic Nursery and Primary School into a vital mission station that positively impacts the lives of its students and their families.
The management of St. Ponsiano Ngondwe Catholic Nursery and Primary School Bbuto is entrusted to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes, an international congregation established in France in 1843 by six young girls dedicated to serving the poor and the needy. In 2002, the congregation expanded its mission to Uganda, motivated by a commitment to love and serve marginalized communities.
In 2008, the Sisters took over the management of St. Ponsiano Ngondwe Catholic Primary School, which at that time had a modest enrollment of 108 pupils. Through their dedicated efforts, the school has experienced significant growth and development. With gratitude to the Consolata Fathers for their unwavering support, the number of pupils has risen to 460, reflecting the community’s trust in the school and its mission.
Under the Patronage of St. Ponsiano, the school continues to thrive, providing quality education and fostering an environment of care and support for all students. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes remain committed to nurturing the spiritual, academic, and social well-being of the children, ensuring that they receive a holistic education that empowers them for the future.
